Summary: | Construction projects in Malaysia are currently facing various problems on sustainability due to the negative perception of construction activity widely spread among stakeholders. In addition, there is a gap of knowledge and awareness on sustainable construction and its practices. This led to the concerns of government and private sectors to be more proactive in minimising this problem without restraining the need for development. This study reviewed the challenges of sustainable construction from many parts of the world through various previous studies. The thematic review process was adopted as methodology of this study. The findings of this study identified the main challenges of sustainable construction which consisted of four main themes namely cost and finance; cultural and knowledge; professional and capacity; and design and technologies.
