Description
Summary:The digitization process is a management method in the present century that is included in the concept of New Administrative Management (NPM). The digitization process has happened so rapidly in Malaysia involving various financial and non-financial sectors. Various parties are affected by the digitization process that is taking place, including refugees who seek protection in Malaysia. In this digitization effort, several elements closely related to digitization, namely the global virtual world, information landscape and digital augmentation are important elements to achieve the goal of sustainable digitization among refugees. This is important because the refugee group is not officially recognized by the government. Therefore, digital platforms need to be utilized in refugee management in Malaysia. Based on those elements, this qualitative study was carried out by involving three informants representing the government, private sector and NGO based in Putrajaya, Malaysia. In-depth interviews conducted found that the digitization process has taken place to help the government ensure that every refugee entering the country can be managed better. There are also refugees who have been successfully registered officially because the digitization process has facilitated the registration of refugees with UNHCR Malaysia. However, there is room for improvement to ensure that the government's digital systems work smoothly in dealing with the refugee problem in Malaysia. The results of this study provide benefits to the government and other parties directly involved such as Non-Governmental Organizations and UNHCR as well as researchers and students who study refugees in Malaysia. © 2023, Penerbit Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
