Summary: | Even though sunlight is abundant in Malaysia, it is challenging to incorporate it into architectural designs due to the prevalence of artificial indoor settings. Daylighting system is a method of using natural light to illuminate the interior of a building with no or minimal energy consumption. A good daylighting system nonetheless requires careful planning and installation, as well as post-installation factors like cost, efficiency, and maintenance. This study gives an overview of daylighting systems from the previous five years in order to identify the current research on daylighting strategies in the buildings. ATLAS.ti 8 was used to undertake a theme analysis to synthesize the literature on daylighting systems in built environments from 2018 to 2022. The results indicate that the Innovative Daylighting System (IDS) is the leading daylighting technology study conducted over the past five years. IDS contain innovative studies on components and technology that have been continuously developed to efficiently introduce more sunlight into building interiors. This study is an invaluable resource for daylight specialists and novices interested in the implementation of daylighting systems in Malaysia. It is a component of a larger study focusing on application, education, and best practices. © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc.. All rights reserved.
