The rapid increase in effluent-containing toxic dyes generated by various industries continues to pose a significant threat to public health and the environment, posing a formidable challenge to existing conventional water treatment systems. As a result, numerous physicochemical and biological treatment processes have been investigated, whose removal capacities varied based on their experimental constraints. Among them, photocatalytic ceramic membranes are a promising treatment technology for dye removal discharged from wastewater. Considering this, the present review focused on presenting a comprehensive discussion of recent advances in photocatalytic ceramic membranes for dye removal. In the present article, we have discussed an overview of dye wastewater treatment technology, membrane technology for dye wastewater treatment, the recent development of photocatalytic ceramic membranes, its challenges, and the future way forward. Prior to now, extensive reviews of advanced photocatalytic ceramic membrane technology on dyes wastewater treatment thus would be a guide for both experienced and new entrance researchers in this field. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd.
