Description
Summary:Medical diagnostics is one of the potential areas for the application of metamaterials, which essentially involves biosensing. Within this viewpoint in mind, chapter 6 of this book deals with ordered metamaterials that can be exploited for biosensing applications, using terahertz waves. In this chapter, Sheta et al provide in brief the background for metamaterial designs, followed by a review of a few different types of metamaterial-based biosensor designs reported by the investigators to detect biological analytes. They also incorporate some recent research results of their own on certain kinds of polarization-insensitive layered terahertz metamaterial configurations that can be used for sensing gamma radiations. The obtained results indicate the potential of the design in gamma radiation dosimetry. © IOP Publishing Ltd 2024. All rights reserved.
