The study's goal is to examine University of Technology MARA students’ perceptions of the use of skin-whitening products. Skin-whitening products are becoming increasingly popular, and university students are frequently exposed to their effects. Students’ knowledge of particular topics, such as harmful compounds, adverse effects, and the components used in skin-whitening treatments, was also tested. In that context, the study uses a quantitative method by distributing the questionnaire to UiTM Sabah students. The sample was chosen at randomly and included participants from a variety of study programmes. The acquired data is examined using statistical methods such as descriptive analysis. The study's findings are expected to provide a better understanding of UiTM Sabah students’ attitudes about the use of skin whitening products. The findings of this study can be used to improve university students’ understanding and education of skin health, allowing them to make more educated decisions about the usage of skin whitening products. Furthermore, the study might contribute to the social science literature by providing insight on skin health and the usage of beauty products among adolescents, particularly students. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
